FastScout Does Not Start (PC)

When using FastScout Desktop on a Windows PC, the software is set by default to request a certain amount of RAM memory from your computer. If the program is unable to receive the requested amount of RAM, the program will not open. If this occurs, you will not receive an error message in return, so if FastScout does not seem to respond when you are attempting to open it, this is likely the issue that you are experiencing. In order to resolve this error, there are two options available for you to try.

Freeing Up Memory for FastScout

The first thing that you can do to fix this issue is to close any other programs that you have running that are not essential at the moment. This could include other software, such as FastDraw, Microsoft Word, a video editing program, or also your web browser, which consumes a good amount of memory. Once you have closed as many other programs as possible to free up more memory, try opening FastScout again.

Additionally, restarting your computer can also refresh your available RAM for opening FastScout.

Adjusting Memory Settings in FastScout

If closing other programs or restarting still does not allow you to open FastScout, a more permanent solution is available. You have the ability to change a setting in FastScout that will result in your program requesting less memory upon startup, increasing the likelihood that your computer will be able to comply with the request.

To access this setting, navigate to the C:\ drive on your computer, then select the Users folder, and then open the folder for your user name. In this folder you will find a FastModel folder, where you can select FastScout, and then Basketball to access your FastDraw installation files.

In this folder will be a file named FastScout, and the file type will be vmoptions. Right-click on this file to select a program to open it with, and choose Notepad to view it as plain text. When the file opens, the last line in the file should read "#-Xmx1200m". Erase the # from the beginning of this line, and then change the number from "1200" to "900". The final result will read "-Xmx900m".

That's it! Now click the File menu and choose Save to save your changes, and then try opening FastScout again. Your program will now request less memory upon startup. If this change still does not allow you to open FastScout, follow the same steps as above, but change your settings to a lower number, such as "-Xmx700m" or "-Xmx500m".

*Note: Lowering the amount of memory settings that FastScout requests upon startup should allow you to more effectively open the program, but lowering this memory setting can result in degraded performance in FastScout during memory intensive tasks, such as saving to the cloud server, or generating a PDF file. For the best results, only lower the memory settings as much as needed to allow FastScout to open, in conjunction with continuing to limit the use of other programs during this process, to ensure the best performance from FastScout.
